Reading Readiness Storytime at the Library
Plano Public Library offers a variety of age appropriate storytimes that teach early literacy and reading readiness skills for children
Babes in Arms
- Ages 0 - 9 months
- Rhymes, music, and movement for the youngest babies, plus simple baby sign language
- Bring a blanket for baby
- Pre-walkers and caregivers only please
Rhyme Time
- Ages 0 - 24 months
- Songs, nursery rhymes, and books provide a language-rich experience for the youngest child
- Active parent / caregiver participation a must
Toddler Time
- Ages 18 - 36 months
- Age-appropriate books, flannel stories, rhymes, and puppets encourage interaction
- Introduction to words and their sounds
- Simple concepts for the active toddler
- Parent / caregiver participation is required
Preschool Storytime
- Ages 3 - 5
- Age-appropriate books, flannel stories, rhymes, puppets, and storytelling reinforce early literacy skills such as letter sounds, vocabulary, narrative skills, and a love of books and reading for the pre-reading child
- Parent / caregiver participation required
Family Storytime
- All ages
- An interactive program for all ages with books, flannel stories, rhymes, puppets, and songs to encourage a love of reading and the library
- Parent / caregiver participation required
Storytime Sensory
- Ages 3 & up
- An interactive, inclusive storytime ideal for children with special needs such as autism spectrum disorders, sensory integration challenges or short attention spans
- Activities are designed to stimulate the senses and promote learning - read books, sing songs, move around and have fun
- Parent / caregiver participation required
